Hey everyone, I’ve been really impressed with how Wyze cameras have expanded my home security setup, and now I’m looking to take things a step further by using one in my car! My current dashcam only covers the front and rear, and while it’s great, I’d love to have an additional pair of eyes on the side windows for added security. I thought this might be a perfect use case for the Wyze Cam, but I have a few questions and concerns that I hope the community can help me with.
First off, can the Wyze Cam be powered reliably via a 12V cigarette lighter? I’ve heard mixed things about power adapters and whether they might cause any issues with the camera’s performance. I’d hate to invest in the setup only to find out it doesn’t work as expected.
Another thing I’m curious about is how the camera handles power cycles. If I leave it plugged in, will it turn on and off automatically with the car’s ignition? I don’t want to have to manually switch it on every time I start the car, but I also don’t want it draining the battery when the car is off. Is there a way to configure it so it starts up as soon as it detects power?
Lastly, connectivity is a big concern. I don’t want to connect the camera to my home Wi-Fi since it won’t reach inside the car, but I’d love to be able to access the footage directly from the camera. Is it possible to connect to the Wyze Cam via a direct Wi-Fi connection while inside the car? If so, how stable would that connection be during driving?
I’d really appreciate any advice or experiences others have had with using Wyze Cams in cars. It would be amazing to find a cost-effective solution that doesn’t require another $200+ investment for a dedicated dashcam system. Thanks in advance for your insights!
