Wyze Cam Power Consumption & Bridge Issues

Hey everyone, I’ve been experimenting with Wyze cameras lately and wanted to share my findings and tips. I’ve been using the Wyze Cam V2 and V3 models, and while they’re fantastic for their price, there are a couple of things I’ve noticed that might help others out there.

First off, power consumption. I’ve been curious about how much power these cams actually use, especially since I rely on them for home monitoring. I decided to test this by plugging my Wyze Cam V3 into a 5000mAh power bank to see how long it would last. After about 12 hours, the power bank was down to 40%, which isn’t too bad considering the camera is always on. However, I noticed that when motion detection kicks in, the power draw increases slightly. So, if you’re using a power bank, make sure it’s a decent one with enough capacity!

Now, onto the bridge issue. I’ve heard from several users that the Wyze Bridge can sometimes cause overheating problems, especially when attached directly to the camera. I’ve had this happen with my V3 cam too—it gets pretty hot after a few hours. My workaround has been to keep the bridge separate from the camera, using a USB extension cable to connect them. This way, the bridge stays cool, and the camera still gets the power it needs. I’ve also noticed that placing the bridge in a well-ventilated area helps with heat dissipation.

Another thing I’d like to mention is the QR code scanning issue some users have reported with the V3 cam. I’ve had mixed results myself, but I found that using a phone with a higher resolution screen and ensuring good lighting really helps. Sometimes it just takes a few tries, but it’s definitely worth persisting with.

Lastly, for anyone looking to integrate their Wyze cams into a larger smart home ecosystem, I’ve found that using a third-party integration tool like Homey or OpenHAB has been a lifesaver. These platforms offer much more flexibility than the default Wyze app, especially when it comes to setting up custom scenes and automations.

I’d love to hear from others who have experience with Wyze cameras—what tips and tricks have you discovered? Let’s keep the conversation going!
