I’m facing a significant issue with my Wyze Cam V3, which is generating an excessive number of DNS requests. This has led to network congestion and high CPU usage on my security gateway. Upon closer inspection, I noticed that the camera is continuously attempting to resolve www.google.com, resulting in thousands of requests every second. This behavior not only disrupts legitimate network traffic but also causes my security gateway’s CPU to spike, severely impacting performance.
I’ve taken several steps to address this problem, including resetting the camera, updating its firmware, and reverting to a previous firmware version. Unfortunately, none of these actions have resolved the issue. I’ve also reached out to Wyze support, submitting detailed logs and device information, but their response was unsatisfactory, with the ticket being closed without any meaningful assistance.
To mitigate the impact, I’ve temporarily switched the camera’s DNS settings to use Google’s public DNS servers (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4). While this hasn’t completely stopped the excessive requests, it has reduced the load on my internal DNS server. However, the root cause remains unresolved, and the issue persists until the device is rebooted.
I’m eager to find a permanent solution and would greatly appreciate any insights or suggestions from the community. If anyone has encountered a similar issue or has successfully resolved it, please share your experience. Let’s work together to address this problem and restore normal functionality to the Wyze Cam V3.
