Wyze Cam V3 Motion Detection Issues and Resolutions

Hey everyone,

I’ve been using the Wyze Cam V3 for a while now, and I’ve noticed some significant changes in how motion detection works after the latest firmware update. It’s been a bit frustrating, but I wanted to share my experience and the solutions I’ve found in case others are dealing with similar issues.

The Problem

After updating to firmware version 4.36.10.2864, I noticed that recorded events were much shorter than before—around 10-13 seconds compared to the usual 25 seconds. This wasn’t just a minor inconvenience; it completely changed how I monitor my home. For instance, when I leave the house, I’d expect a continuous 1-minute recording, but now it’s broken into 4 or 5 short clips. During busy periods, like when I’m moving groceries in and out, the camera floods my activity feed with 25 short events instead of one consolidated video.

Another frustrating issue was the lack of notifications for events. Even though the app showed all recorded events, I wasn’t getting any push notifications. I double-checked the settings, restarted the app, and even reset the camera, but nothing changed.

What I Did

I decided to dig deeper into the motion detection settings. I noticed that the sensitivity hadn’t changed, but it seemed like the camera was acting as if the sensitivity was lower. I tried adjusting it manually, but it didn’t make a noticeable difference. I also looked into manual recording options, which I now use for extended monitoring periods.

After some research, I found that others were experiencing similar issues. It seems like the firmware update altered the motion detection algorithm, making it less sensitive and more prone to ending recordings prematurely. While this is frustrating, it’s good to know I’m not alone.

The Solution

Here’s what worked for me:

  • Manual Recording: I now manually start recordings for extended periods when I know I’ll be away or when I want comprehensive coverage.
  • Adjusting Sensitivity: I increased the sensitivity setting to the maximum. While it’s not perfect, it helps reduce the number of short clips.
  • Clear Cache and Restart: Periodically clearing the app cache and restarting the camera has helped with the notification issue, though it’s not a permanent fix.

Final Thoughts

The Wyze Cam V3 is still a fantastic device, and I’m grateful for its functionality. However, the recent firmware changes have definitely impacted its performance. I hope Wyze addresses these issues in future updates. In the meantime, I’ll continue to adapt and make the most of my camera.

If anyone else has tips or solutions, I’d love to hear them!

Cheers,
