Wyze Cam v3 Timelapse & SD Recording Issues

Hey everyone, I’ve been having some trouble with my Wyze Cam v3 cameras, and I’m hoping someone out there can help me figure this out. I’ve got two of them set up to do timelapse and continuous recording to SD cards, but they’re just not working as expected. Let me walk through what’s been happening.

First off, both cameras are using brand new, high-spec 32GB SD cards. I’ve tried formatting them multiple times—through the Wyze app, on my PC, and even formatting them again in the app. Everything seems fine on the setup side. The cameras are mounted up high and are meant to run unattended, with the plan being to retrieve the timelapse footage remotely. But here’s the catch: internet access isn’t constant. They only connect once a day when I hotspot them with my phone.

Now, onto the problems. Timelapse recordings almost always fail. Even when I set it for a 24-hour timelapse, I’ll sometimes only get 1 minute of footage. I’ve tested different capture intervals—1 every 3 seconds, 30 seconds, 1 minute—and it’s the same result every time. Yesterday, I tried enabling both continuous recording and timelapse at the same time. Today, I checked, and it was even worse: only 1 second of timelapse footage was saved, and only 1 hour of continuous footage was recorded before it just stopped.

From what I understand, internet shouldn’t be required for timelapse or continuous recording, but that’s exactly what seems to be happening. The cameras stop recording once Wi-Fi is lost, even though everything should be writing to the SD card locally. Has anyone else run into this issue? Do the v3 cameras really require a constant internet connection for timelapse to work? Any workarounds would be absolutely appreciated. Thanks in advance!
