Wyze Camera Battery Status and Accessibility

As a totally blind user relying on Android’s TalkBack screen reader, I’ve noticed a significant decline in the usability of the Wyze App after recent updates. Previously, I could easily navigate through my devices and access crucial information like battery levels and camera statuses. For instance, I could hear details such as ‘Front door camera battery 58% Power ON’ or ‘Patio Camera Battery 78% Power off.’ However, in the latest versions, this functionality has been severely limited. Now, all I hear is ‘Front Door camera Power,’ which is insufficient for my needs.

For someone who relies on screen readers, the inability to access battery status and camera power settings is a major setback. Additionally, the lack of accessibility for speaker and microphone controls on cameras is another hurdle. These controls are essential for enabling two-way communication, which is a key feature for many users, including myself.

I kindly request that the Wyze team reintroduce these functionalities. Specifically, adding settings to always unmute the speaker and microphone for cameras would greatly enhance accessibility. This would allow users like me to utilize the live view feature as a two-way intercom and ensure that audio from video recordings is playable. Currently, these features are inaccessible, which is both frustrating and limiting.

I hope the Wyze team considers these suggestions to improve the app’s accessibility for visually impaired users. Your attention to this matter would be greatly appreciated and would make a significant difference in the usability of your products for a broader audience.
