Wyze Floodlight Cam Integration with SmartThings: My Experience

Hey everyone, I wanted to share my recent experience integrating the Wyze Floodlight Cam with my SmartThings setup. I’ve been using Wyze cameras for a while now, and I’ve always been impressed by their affordability and functionality. However, I recently encountered an issue that I thought was worth discussing with the community.

First off, I love the Wyze Floodlight Cam for its night vision and motion detection capabilities. It’s been a great addition to my home security setup. However, I recently discovered that the floodlight doesn’t activate when the WiFi connection is down. This is a bit concerning, especially for those of us in rural areas with less reliable internet connectivity. I reached out to Wyze support about this, and they mentioned that it’s a known issue that they’re working on. I’m hopeful they’ll resolve it soon!

In the meantime, I’ve been using the camera’s motion detection feature to trigger notifications on my phone, even when the floodlight isn’t active. It’s not a perfect solution, but it’s better than nothing. I’ve also been experimenting with the SmartThings app to create custom routines that integrate the camera with my other smart devices. For example, I’ve set it up to turn on my outdoor lights and send me a notification whenever motion is detected.

One thing I’d love to see is more flexibility in how the camera’s notifications work. I’d love the ability to assign different sounds to different types of alerts—like one sound for motion and another for doorbell presses. This would make it easier to distinguish between different types of activity, especially if multiple cameras are in use.

Overall, I’m still very happy with the Wyze Floodlight Cam. It’s an excellent budget-friendly option for home security, and I’m excited to see how Wyze improves it in the future. If anyone has any tips or tricks for getting the most out of their Wyze cameras, I’d love to hear them!

Cheers,
