I stumbled upon this issue because my Wyze sensor only allows open/close triggers, which didn’t quite meet my needs.

- Name your Wyze plug: I named mine “Alexa Trigger”.
- Create a Wyze rule: Set the trigger to “contact sensor open for X minutes” and action to turn on the “Alexa Trigger” plug.
- Set up an Alexa routine: Use the plug’s activation as the trigger. When the plug turns on, Alexa can perform any action you want, like making an announcement or turning off the plug to reset the system.
This setup has been a game-changer for me, especially for monitoring my garage door. It’s such a relief to know that Alexa will notify me if the door stays open too long. Plus, it’s satisfying to see everything work seamlessly without needing extra hardware.
