Wyze Thermostat: Feature Requests and Firmware Insights

Hey everyone, I’ve been using the Wyze Thermostat for a few months now, and while it’s been a solid addition to my smart home setup, there are a couple of features I’d love to see improved. Let me share my thoughts and experiences so far!

First off, the thermostat itself is great—it’s responsive, integrates well with Alexa, and the app is user-friendly. However, I’ve noticed a few quirks that could use some attention. For instance, the average temperature readings for daily and monthly don’t adjust when the thermostat is off or not in use. This inconsistency can lead to misleading data, especially if the thermostat is turned off during certain times of the day or season. I’d love to see this adjusted to reflect actual usage periods.

Another thing I’ve encountered is the need to frequently reset the Alexa skill, even when the Alexa app is up to date. This is a minor inconvenience, but it would be nice if the firmware could handle this more seamlessly. Speaking of firmware, it’s interesting to note that the thermostat’s firmware version is still at v1.1.1 after being available for a few months. I’m curious if others have noticed this or if there’s an expected timeline for an update.

On a more positive note, I’ve been experimenting with automation using the Wyze Thermostat and Alexa routines. For example, I set up a rule where motion detected by my Wyze camera changes the bulb color from white to red for 5 minutes before reverting back. While this works, I’d love to see more built-in automation options within the thermostat itself, such as geofencing or more advanced scheduling features.

I’d also appreciate the ability to keep the thermostat’s display on continuously, rather than relying solely on motion sensing. This would be especially useful in areas where the thermostat is frequently accessed but not always triggered by motion.

Lastly, I’m hopeful that future firmware updates could address these points and perhaps introduce features like person detection or improved connectivity options. Wyze has shown great potential with their devices, and I’m excited to see how they continue to evolve!
