Xiaomi Temp & Humidity Sensor 9050 - Recent Experience

Hello everyone! I recently decided to upgrade my home monitoring setup and purchased five of the Xiaomi Temp & Humidity Sensor 9050 units. At around $6 each, they seemed like a great deal, especially with the hope of integrating them into my Zigbee ecosystem. Here’s my experience so far:

Initial Setup
Unboxing the sensors was exciting, but the journey quickly got interesting. My first sensor connected seamlessly to the Mi-Home app and updated its firmware without issues. However, this proved to be both a blessing and a curse. The firmware update made the sensor compatible with my Home Assistant setup, but it also meant that certain functionalities were limited. Specifically, I couldn’t generate a functional bindkey, which was essential for full integration.

Alternative Firmware
Determined to make this work, I tried a different approach with my second sensor. I installed the ‘ATC4950’ firmware, which worked like a charm. The sensor was immediately recognized by Home Assistant, and the BLE/Bluetooth connection was stable. While this wasn’t the Zigbee integration I was hoping for, it was a solid workaround for certain areas of my home.

Zigbee Challenges
As for the Zigbee firmware, only one version could fit on the sensor’s memory. The installation process went smoothly, but unfortunately, the sensor didn’t show up in my Zigbee Home Automation setup. This was a bit frustrating, but I’m still hopeful that future updates might resolve this.

Current Status
At this point, I’m in the middle of troubleshooting and experimenting. It’s been a mix of successes and setbacks, but each step brings me closer to finding a reliable solution. I’m curious to hear if anyone else has encountered similar issues or has tips for achieving a seamless Zigbee integration with these sensors.

Overall, while the journey hasn’t been without its bumps, I’m optimistic about the potential of these sensors. They’re affordable, versatile, and with the right setup, they can be a great addition to any smart home setup. Happy tinkering everyone!
