Hey everyone, I wanted to share my recent experience with installing the YoLink Water Meter. It was a bit of a rollercoaster, but I managed to get it working, and I thought I’d document the process in case anyone else runs into similar issues.
Initially, I encountered an error while trying to add the YoLink WaterMeterController device. The error message indicated that the driver wasn’t installed, which was frustrating. After some research, I realized that I needed to manually install the driver through the Hubitat Package Manager. Once I did that, the installation went smoothly!
This experience reminded me of another project I worked on a while back—digitizing an old Ferraris electric meter. The meter didn’t have an S0 interface, so I had to get creative. I ended up using an IR sensor to detect the rotating disc. It was a fun DIY project, and I even wrote a bit about it on my blog. The setup involves a Raspberry Pi, some custom code, and Dirk Weyand’s fantastic software for data processing. It’s been running reliably for years now, monitoring not just electricity but also gas and water usage.
Reflecting on both projects, I’m reminded of the satisfaction that comes from solving a technical puzzle. It’s also inspiring to see how a community like this can come together to share knowledge and troubleshoot issues. If anyone has similar DIY projects or tips, I’d love to hear about them!
Happy tinkering everyone! ![]()
