Z-Wave Binding Setup Troubleshooting and Solution

Hi everyone! I wanted to share my recent experience with setting up the Z-Wave binding in Home Assistant after an upgrade. It was a bit of a rollercoaster, but I managed to get everything working smoothly in the end.

So, here’s what happened: I upgraded my system from version 2.0 to 2.1, and after the update, my Z-Wave binding went offline. The error message I received was ‘zwave.thingstate.serial_notfound’. At first, I was a bit puzzled because everything had been working perfectly before the upgrade.

I decided to start by checking the serial port settings. I remembered that sometimes after upgrades, configurations can get reset or changed. I went into the settings and made sure that the serial port was correctly set to ‘/dev/USBzwave’. But even after that, the binding still wouldn’t start.

Next, I thought maybe the issue was with the binding itself. I uninstalled and reinstalled the Z-Wave binding through HACS, but that didn’t make a difference. I started to feel a bit stuck, but I knew I couldn’t give up!

Then, I remembered reading somewhere about clearing the zwave configuration folder. I decided to give it a try. I navigated to the ‘config/zwave’ directory and deleted everything inside. After that, I restarted Home Assistant. To my delight, the binding came back online, and all my devices were recognized again!

I thought I’d share this experience in case anyone else runs into the same issue. It can be frustrating when things don’t work as expected after an update, but persistence pays off. If you’re having trouble with your Z-Wave binding, try clearing the configuration folder—it might just be the solution you need.

Happy automating everyone! :star2:
