Z-Wave Device Malfunction on Restart: My Troubleshooting Journey

Hey everyone! I wanted to share my recent experience with a frustrating issue involving my Z-Wave devices. After updating my Home Assistant instance, I noticed that some of my Z-Wave entities were behaving oddly upon restart. Specifically, my Inovelli switches started showing incorrect sensor data like air temperature and illuminance, which was quite puzzling.

At first, I was a bit concerned, thinking there might be a deeper issue with my setup. But after some research and trial and error, I found a solution! Here’s what I did:

  1. Checked Firmware Updates: I made sure all my Z-Wave devices were running the latest firmware. Sometimes, bugs in older versions can cause unexpected behavior.
  2. Reset Inclusion Exclusion Mode: I reset the inclusion/exclusion mode on my Z-Wave controller, which helped clear out any lingering issues.
  3. Reviewed Logs: I carefully reviewed the logs in Home Assistant to identify any errors or warnings related to Z-Wave. This helped me pinpoint the exact devices causing the problem.
  4. Repaired or Removed Problematic Devices: For devices that were consistently causing issues, I either repaired them through the Z-Wave settings or temporarily removed them from the network.

After these steps, the problem resolved itself, and my devices are now working as expected. It was a bit of a learning curve, but it’s satisfying to have everything back to normal.

If anyone else is experiencing similar issues, I’d recommend starting with these troubleshooting steps. Happy automating! :rocket:
