Z-Wave Network Issues and Possible Solutions

Hey everyone, I’ve been using Home Assistant for about a year now and it’s been a fantastic experience overall. However, I’ve recently encountered some issues with my Z-Wave network that have me a bit puzzled. I thought I’d share my experience and see if anyone has some insights or solutions!

So, here’s what’s been happening: I’ve been trying to add a few new devices to my network—one from Aeotec and another Popp radiator valve. The Aeotec device worked out of the box, but the radiator valve wasn’t recognized and showed up as an unknown node. I tried removing it from the network, did a factory reset, and even rolled back to a previous backup. Unfortunately, the unknown node stuck around, and now I can’t add any new devices at all. The Z-Stick includes them, but they don’t show up in the Z-Wave Management menu. Frustrating, to say the least.

I’ve read up on possible causes and suspect there might be a mismatch between my Z-Stick config and Home Assistant or OpenZWave. I’d really like to avoid having to exclude all my devices and start over, especially since I have less than 20 devices. I can’t imagine how overwhelming that would be for someone with 50-100 devices!

My setup is Home Assistant 0.93.1 on a Raspberry Pi 3 with an Aeotec Z-Stick Gen 5. The error logs mention two unknown nodes not responding, and the zwcg.xml file shows incomplete details for some nodes. Node 6 has also disappeared, which I understand isn’t uncommon, but it’s another layer to this mystery.

I’d be grateful for any advice before resorting to a factory reset. Has anyone experienced something similar? Did you find a workaround or solution? I’m hoping to get this sorted without having to rebuild my entire Z-Wave network node by node. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer!
