I recently decided to upgrade my Z-Wave setup from version 3.4.2 to 4.0.0.M3. While most of my devices, like the WiFi Kasa plugs and zigbee2mqtt, worked seamlessly, I encountered some issues with my Z-Wave nodes. Initially, everything seemed to go smoothly—everything showed as ONLINE. However, some nodes didn’t respond as expected. Some showed INITIALIZING:PING, others INITIALIZING REQUEST-NIF, and a few didn’t update their states at all. It was puzzling because everything worked perfectly on the older version.I tried removing and reinstalling the Z-Wave binding, restarting OpenHAB, and even reverting to the older version temporarily to confirm the issue. The problem persisted, so I decided to dig deeper. After some research, I realized that the initialization process in the new Z-Wave binding might require more time or specific configurations. I also considered the possibility of firmware updates for my Z-Wave devices, though most were already up to date. Here’s what worked for me: I manually reset each problematic node through the OpenHAB interface and then reinitialized them one by one. This process took some time, but it helped stabilize the connections. Additionally, I noticed that some nodes required a physical interaction, like flipping a switch, to trigger an update. While this isn’t ideal, it provided a temporary workaround until the bindings mature further. If anyone else is experiencing similar issues, I’d recommend checking the official Z-Wave binding documentation for any specific upgrade instructions. Also, ensure your devices are up to date and consider reaching out to the community for support. It’s a bit frustrating, but with patience and persistence, it’s manageable. Thanks to everyone in the community for their insights and troubleshooting tips!
