Hi all, I wanted to share some insights and experiences from my recent journey with Zigbee and the Home Assistant energy dashboard. Hopefully, this can help others who might be facing similar challenges or looking to optimize their setups!
First, I’ve been working on setting up some new Zigbee lights and switches in my home. I noticed significant interference on my existing Zigbee channel (channel 25), which was causing occasional connection drops and slow response times. After some research, I decided to perform an energy scan to find a less congested channel. Using the built-in tools in Home Assistant, I found that channel 20 had much lower interference levels, especially since my Wi-Fi operates on channel 6, which doesn’t overlap as much with channel 20. Moving my Zigbee coordinator to channel 20 has made a world of difference in reliability and performance!
For those wondering about the energy scan process, it’s incredibly useful when starting fresh, but interpreting the data when you already have an active network can be tricky. Your own devices will naturally show high usage on their current channel, so it’s important to test multiple channels and consider the physical layout of your home and nearby interference sources.
On another note, I’ve been experimenting with the energy dashboard in Home Assistant to better track my solar panel production and overall energy usage. One feature I’ve found incredibly helpful is the ability to add custom sensors for cost breakdown and total kWh consumption. This makes it much easier to visualize how much each device is contributing to my energy bills without having to hover or click for details. If anyone is looking to set this up, I’d recommend checking out the documentation on custom sensors and energy dashboard integrations—it’s a great way to take your energy monitoring to the next level!
I’d love to hear from others who have tackled similar challenges or have tips for optimizing Zigbee networks and energy tracking setups. Let’s keep the conversation going!
Best regards,
