Zigbee Device Pairing Issues and Troubleshooting Tips

I’ve been diving into the world of Zigbee devices lately, and I must say, it’s been quite the journey! While most devices have paired without any issues, I’ve encountered a few motion sensors that have been giving me a bit of a headache. Let me share my experiences and the troubleshooting steps I’ve taken so far.

The Problem:
I have a SmartThings motion sensor that I’m trying to pair with my Hubitat hub. The device was previously working fine with my SmartThings setup, but when I attempt to pair it with Hubitat, it just won’t connect. The LED blinks blue, and that’s it. No further progress. I’ve tried resetting the device, ensuring it’s within range, and even power cycling the hub, but nothing seems to work.

What I’ve Tried:

  1. Factory Reset: I reset the device to ensure it wasn’t paired with another hub. The LED turned green, indicating a successful reset.
  2. Distance Check: The device is only a few feet away from the hub, so distance isn’t an issue.
  3. Hub Switch: I temporarily switched to my old SmartThings hub to see if the device would pair there, and it did without any problems. This tells me the device itself is working fine.
  4. Logs and Database Check: I’ve reviewed the logs and confirmed that the device is deleted from Hubitat’s database, but the pairing issue persists.

Theories and Thoughts:
I suspect there might be an issue with how Hubitat handles device removal from its database. Even though the device isn’t showing up in the list or logs, it feels like some residual data might be causing conflicts. I’m considering reaching out to the Hubitat community to see if others have experienced similar issues and if there’s a known workaround.

Looking for Solutions:
Has anyone else encountered this problem? I’d love to hear if there are any additional troubleshooting steps I can take or if there’s a specific method to ensure the device is completely removed from Hubitat’s system. Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated!

This experience has been a great learning opportunity, and I’m excited to figure out a resolution. It’s all part of the journey in setting up a seamless smart home ecosystem!
