Zigbee Network Troubleshooting and Lessons Learned

Hello everyone, I wanted to share my recent experience with my Zigbee network and the lessons I learned along the way. While I haven’t fully resolved the issue yet, I thought it might be helpful to document my journey for others who might be facing similar challenges.

A few weeks ago, I decided to update my Home Assistant setup, which hadn’t been touched in over two years. This involved updating the OS, Mosquitto server, and the Zigbee2MQTT addon to their latest versions. After several hours of carefully navigating through breaking changes and database updates, I was finally back up and running. However, my Zigbee network started experiencing issues, with devices frequently going offline.

The logs showed errors related to memory issues, specifically MEM_ERROR, which was puzzling. I reached out to a friend who runs a similar setup, but he hadn’t encountered the same problem. I restarted the server, checked the hardware, and even compared configurations, but nothing seemed to resolve the issue.

During this process, I learned a few valuable lessons:

  1. Backup Regularly: While I had backups, the process of restoring and reconfiguring devices was time-consuming. It underscored the importance of having reliable and frequent backups.
  2. Monitor Device Health: I started paying closer attention to device health metrics and battery levels, which helped me identify and replace failing batteries in some sensors.
  3. Community Support: Engaging with the community was incredibly helpful. Even though my specific issue wasn’t immediately resolved, the process of describing the problem to others often provided new insights.

I’m still working on resolving the issue, but the experience has been a great learning opportunity. If anyone has encountered similar problems or has suggestions, I’d love to hear from you!

Happy tinkering, and here’s to hoping for a stable Zigbee network soon! :rocket:
