Zigbee Sensor Range and Placement Tips

I’ve been experimenting with Zigbee sensors around my home, and I thought I’d share some of my experiences and tips for getting the best performance out of these devices. :hammer_and_wrench:

One of the first challenges I faced was getting a door contact sensor to work reliably on my shed. It’s about 8 feet away from my main Zigbee repeater, but the signal kept dropping, especially when it had to pass through walls. After some trial and error, I found that adding a Zigbee repeater specifically for outdoor use made a huge difference. Now, the sensor stays connected consistently!

Another thing I’ve learned is the importance of placement. Zigbee devices work best when they have a clear line of sight to the hub or repeater. I also discovered that signal strength can vary depending on the type of wall materials—wood and drywall are better than concrete or metal. If you’re having range issues, try moving the sensor or adding a repeater in a strategic location.

I’d love to hear from others who’ve successfully set up Zigbee sensors in tricky locations. What tips or tricks have worked for you?
