Hey everyone! I’ve been diving into the world of Zigbee and Z-Wave lately, and I thought I’d share some of my experiences and challenges. Let’s start with my Zigbee setup—I’ve got a mix of devices in my garage, including some Samsung plugs acting as repeaters. The setup has been working fine for about a year, but since switching from SmartThings to Hubitat, I’ve noticed some dropouts.
I’ve been monitoring the RSSI values, and they’re generally above 90, which doesn’t seem great. After some trial and error, I moved the hub closer to one of my repeaters and added another Samsung plug. Now, the RSSI is in the low 80s, and things seem to be working more reliably. It’s interesting because I wouldn’t have expected to need so many repeaters for a setup that’s less than 20 meters wide.
On the device integration front, I’ve been trying to get a Yale smart alarm and Conexis front door lock to work seamlessly. The Yale app shows the lock status, but I’m only seeing one entity in Home Assistant. I’m wondering if there’s a way to get more detailed lock status information or if I need to tweak the integration settings further.
Another challenge I’ve faced is with automations. I set up a rule to turn on my garden fountain during daylight hours when the weather is good, but it’s been inconsistent. I’m using a Shelly switch and the Sun and Home Forecast integrations, but the automation doesn’t always trigger as expected. I’m curious if others have similar issues or if there’s a better way to structure the conditions.
Overall, I’m really impressed with how much I can accomplish with these tools, but there’s definitely a learning curve. I’d love to hear if anyone else has tackled similar challenges or has tips for improving signal strength and device integration. Let’s keep the conversation going!
