Hey folks, just wanted to share a few automation setups I’ve been playing with using Aqara gear and HomeKit. I’m somewhere between enthusiast and mildly obsessed, so if any of this sparks ideas or you’ve got variations, I’m all ears!
-
Morning Wake-Up: Motion sensor in the hallway triggers soft lighting and the coffee machine via smart plug if it’s between 6-8am and someone walks out of the bedroom. Feels like my apartment knows I’m not a morning person.
-
Shower Ready Mode: I stuck a contact sensor on the bathroom door. If it closes and stays shut for more than 2 mins, HomeKit kicks in to pre-heat the towel warmer and play chill music via a HomePod mini. Game changer in winter.
-
Security Trick: Aqara door sensor on the front door + time condition = instant camera feed pop-up on my phone if the door opens between midnight - 6am. Peace of mind without paranoia.
-
Ventilation Reminder: My kitchen window has a contact sensor. If it’s shut for more than 3 days, I get a notification reminder to air the place out. Super handy with humid weather.
-
Goodbye Scene: When both my iPhone and Apple Watch leave home, all Aqara lights and plugs turn off, and security mode activates. Simple but effective automation.
Aqara + HomeKit have been surprisingly powerful once you get into the groove with conditions and scenes. Would love to hear your automations too, especially anything fancy with presence detection or fun weekend routines. Spill the tea!
