A Nice Trick to Calculate Points for Purchases

Hey everyone! I came across this really handy trick that might be useful for those of you who enjoy earning points through purchases. I was trying to figure out how much someone needs to spend for me to earn a specific number of points, and I stumbled upon this formula that works like a charm!

So, let’s break it down. If you want to earn X points, you can calculate the amount someone needs to spend (Y) using this simple formula:

  • For USD and EUR: Y = X / 20
  • For CAD: Y = X / 16
  • For GBP: Y = X / 24

This formula is based on the points per currency (PPC) ratio, which varies by region. For example, if you spend 50 USD, you’d get:

plaintext
50 USD * 4 * 5 = 1000 points

And for 50 CAD:

plaintext
50 CAD * 4 * 4 = 800 points

Or 50 GBP:

plaintext
50 GBP * 4 * 6 = 1200 points

If you’re not familiar with the PPC ratio, here’s a quick reference:

  • USD and EUR: 5 points per dollar/euro
  • CAD: 4 points per CAD
  • GBP: 6 points per GBP

This trick has been super helpful for me, especially when I want to encourage others to spend a bit more to earn rewards. I hope this helps someone else too! Let me know if you have any questions or if there’s a scenario I haven’t considered yet.
