Hey everyone, I wanted to share a positive experience I had recently with the ‘Replace Device’ feature in the SmartThings app. It’s been a lifesaver for me!
I have a GE Z-Wave switch that occasionally loses its connection to my hub. In the past, this meant I had to delete the device from all my SmartApps and go through the hassle of re-pairing it. But this time, I decided to give the ‘Replace’ option a try.
Here’s what worked for me:
- Put the hub in General Device Exclusion mode. This ensures any existing connections are cleared.
- Exclude the switch by pressing its on/off button. The app confirmed that the device was excluded, which was a good sign.
- Go back to the device settings and select ‘Replace’.
- Press the on/off button on the switch again. Voilà! The switch was successfully re-paired without any issues.
This method saved me so much time and hassle. No need to delete the device from multiple apps or reset the breaker. It’s definitely the easiest way I’ve found so far to re-pair Z-Wave devices.
If anyone else is struggling with similar issues, I highly recommend giving this approach a try. It’s worked flawlessly for me every time!
Cheers,
Simon
