I recently embarked on integrating my Google Home setup with Hubitat, and it’s been a fascinating experience! I wanted to ensure my IoT devices were secure and isolated on their own network, so I decided to dive into VLANs and network segmentation. My goal was to keep my smart devices on a separate network while still maintaining seamless control through Google Home.
Initially, I was a bit puzzled about how Hubitat would communicate with my Google Home devices if they were on different networks. After some research, I discovered that Hubitat acts as a bridge, leveraging the cloud to maintain connectivity even when devices are on separate networks. This was a relief! I set up my VLANs, isolated my IoT devices, and was thrilled to see everything working as smoothly as before.
One thing I’d love to explore further is the possibility of direct LAN communication between Hubitat and Google Home. It would be great if they could find a way to facilitate this without relying solely on the cloud, but for now, the setup works perfectly for my needs.
This experience has taught me the importance of understanding network configurations and how different hubs and platforms interact. It’s also reminded me how versatile and reliable Google Home integration can be, even in more complex setups. I’m excited to continue tweaking my system and exploring new ways to enhance my smart home experience!
