A Smooth Recovery and New LED Strips Excitement

Hey everyone, I wanted to share a mix of experiences from my recent smart home adventures. First off, I had a bit of a scare when my SSD on my OpenHAB server decided to give up the ghost. Luckily, I had a backup plan in place with a spare SSD, and after a day of reinstalling and restoring configurations, everything is back up and running smoothly. It was a good reminder to keep those backups updated and to consider automating some of the configuration processes for future-proofing.

On a lighter note, I’ve been experimenting with failover setups using a Raspberry Pi as a backup brain for my OpenHAB instance. The idea is to have it ready to take over if my main server ever goes down. I’ve got most of the services like Grafana and Zigbee2MQTT running in Docker, which makes the transition pretty seamless. It’s still a work in progress, but it’s been a fun project to ensure my smart home setup is as resilient as possible.

Now, switching gears to something brighter—literally! I just got my new WiFi LED strips in the mail, and I’m absolutely thrilled to start playing around with them. The possibilities for custom lighting scenes and automations are endless, and I can’t wait to integrate them into my existing setup. If anyone has tips or favorite configurations for LED strips, I’d love to hear them!

Overall, it’s been a mix of challenges and excitement. The tech world might throw curveballs, but there’s always something new and cool to explore. Here’s to a year filled with smart home discoveries and smooth recoveries!
