Achieving Multiple Actions with Google Home and SmartThings

Hey everyone! I wanted to share a success story I had recently with setting up a smart home automation. It all started when I decided to create a ‘Goodnight’ routine using my Google Home and SmartThings hub. The goal was simple: say ‘Goodnight’ and have three things happen simultaneously—turn off the bedroom light, turn on the hallway light, and activate the nightlight in the bathroom.

At first, I was a bit overwhelmed. I tried using virtual switches on SmartThings, but no matter how I set it up, I could only get one action to work at a time. It was frustrating because I knew the potential was there, but I just couldn’t crack the code.

Then, I remembered hearing about IFTTT being a great tool for connecting different smart home ecosystems. I decided to give it a shot. After some trial and error, I figured out how to link Google Home with SmartThings through IFTTT. The key was setting up a trigger in IFTTT that listened for my voice command and then sent the necessary signals to SmartThings to execute all three actions.

The moment it worked was amazing! Now, saying ‘Goodnight’ to my Google Home not only turns off the bedroom light but also gently lights up the hallway and bathroom, ensuring a smooth transition to bedtime. It’s these little victories that make the whole smart home journey worthwhile.

If anyone else is struggling with getting multiple actions to work together, I’d highly recommend exploring IFTTT. It’s a powerful tool that can bridge the gap between different platforms. Happy automating everyone! :rocket:
