Agara G400 vs. G410

Continuing the discussion from Aqara G400 Doorbell Review: Finally a Video Doorbell Done Right?:

I am planning on replacing my 410 with the new 400. Main goal is not having the chime as a repeater as I have been having connection issues. However, I saw a post showing the night vision on the 400 to be very poor. Is that the case, or was that just a one off thing?

Regarding the video by @coletti.robert in the post you linked, the night vision is clearly visible. In my opinion, it looks identical to the G410. The video only mentioned that the night footage is in black and white (similar to the G410 using infrared) rather than the color night vision (without infrared) offered by the G5 Pro.

I am aware that some users experienced issues with the G410 when attaching a 3D-printed rain cover. The cover caused infrared reflection and light scattering, but this is a completely solvable problem.

Here’s the video again, starting from the part where the night footage is shown:

Yeah, night vision is fine for me. My comment was more about how impressive the color night vision on the G5 is, but IR night vision is still totally usable.

What a lot of people miss is that your environment still matters. IR doesn’t rely on ambient light, but it has a limited range, so anything farther away will naturally look darker. You can also get uneven exposure depending on what’s close vs. far. It’s fair to say results may vary depending on your setup.
