So the last few years i have basically been trouble free for the most part or issues were easily fixed. NOW…this Alexa 12 (& Google) does nothing but make devices useless because they are working together (business wise). It has dropped my aqara and govee skill twice now by itself. Get the same BS mesaage…“your android needs an update to continue linking”? I contacted amazon but got usless info. To date neither skill will link again no matter what you do on apps or PC!! I will never use home assistant and google just shot themselves in the foot with me! Anyone experiencing this and actually know how to permanently fix it? I am not going too buy anymore smarthome devices until it all works again. Aqara, Govee & Meross etc need to get on Amazon & Googles ass about this because it will cost them sales in the near future. FYI i have always been a Prime Member as well.
@fitforty42 I’m sorry to hear you’re having such frustrating issues with Alexa and Google dropping the Aqara skill. It’s definitely not the experience you should be having.
Regarding the error message about the Android update, it’s possible that there could be some truth to it. Sometimes, an outdated Android system can cause compatibility problems with apps and skills. Have you tried updating your Android device to the latest version?
As for the Aqara skill not relinking, here are the steps to connect your Aqara device with Alexa again:
- Set up your Aqara device: Make sure your Aqara device is set up and working correctly in the Aqara Home app.
- Enable the Aqara skill in Alexa:
- Open the Alexa app on your mobile device.
- Go to the menu and select “Skills & Games”.
- Search for “Aqara” and select the corresponding skill.
- Click on “Enable”.
- Log in: You will be prompted to log in with your Aqara account to link the services.
- Discover devices:
- After enabling the skill and linking your account, Alexa will automatically discover compatible devices.
- Go to “Devices” in the Alexa app and verify that your Aqara devices appear in the list.
- Control your devices: Now you can control your Aqara devices using voice commands through Alexa.
If you’re still having trouble after following these steps, it might be a good idea to reach out to Aqara’s customer service. You can contact them by Aqara Home App (Profile>Help&Feedback>Customer Service) or scanning the QR code:
I hope this helps you get things sorted out. Let’s keep the discussion going and see if others in the community have any additional insights or solutions.
@fitforty42 I totally get how frustrating this must be—having your smart home setup suddenly stop working and hitting a wall with fixes is no fun at all. Let’s try to break down what might help based on what we know about Aqara’s integration with Alexa and Google Home.
For Alexa: If the skill keeps dropping or won’t relink, first ensure your Aqara Hub is properly connected to the Aqara Home app. Some hubs might have limitations, but child devices should still appear if set up correctly. Double-check that you’ve followed the integration steps in the Aqara app: go to Profile > Smart Speaker Service > Amazon Alexa and verify the linking process. If issues persist, relinking the service (even if you’ve tried before) might help, as sometimes syncing glitches can be resolved this way .
For Google Home: The linking process requires pairing devices with an Aqara Hub first, then linking your Aqara account via Profile > Connect to Ecosystems > Google Home in the Aqara app. If relinking fails, confirm the hub is online and the devices are properly paired with it .
The “Android needs an update” message isn’t something we have specific guidance on, but ensuring your Aqara Home app, Alexa/Google Home apps, and your device’s OS are all up-to-date might be worth a shot—sometimes compatibility issues crop up with outdated software.
If you’ve already tried these steps and still can’t get it working, you might want to reach out to Aqara’s customer service for more tailored help (via the app: Profile > Help&Feedback > Customer Service).
Has anyone else in the community run into this? Sharing your fixes could really help others out!
Hope you get things sorted soon—smarthome setups should make life easier, not more stressful. ![]()
I never had an issue like this. What is your version of Android?
I have an Aqara and a few other devices, and they all work great through Google Home. I have a Google Nest2 and speakers. Smart - Android
