It depends greatly on where it’s located—on the way to the bathroom, in the room, in the hallway—what function it performs and what purpose it serves. After all, when you bought the camera, you knew exactly what you needed it for, didn’t you?!
You want recommendations for automation, but we have no idea what your needs are.
If you ask how to do this and that, it’ll be much simpler.
Here’s a tip: if you upload your image to an AI tool like ChatGPT and ask, ‘Are there any recommendations for automation?’, you’ll get some good suggestions. Not all of these will be useful, and you will also need to specify that the room boundaries must be respected. For example, it wouldn’t make sense for the motion detector to turn on the Christmas tree lights if the tree is in a different room. You can then provide further information or restrictions in the chat, or request additional suggestions.
I tried that out for you:
That’s a really nice setup, looks like you’ve got a solid base to build on. Since you already have the E1 camera and a few sensors nearby, there are some fun automations you could try.
You can create a soft night routine where the ESP32 nightlight gently lights up in warm tones when motion is detected after a certain hour, just enough to check on the baby without waking them. If you have a temperature and humidity sensor, you can make the system notify you or slightly adjust lighting when the room gets too hot or cold. For nap time, you could make the nightlight fade out when the room stays quiet for a few minutes, or trigger some white noise if you have a speaker connected. And when you’re in the room, you can have the E1 camera automatically pause notifications to avoid constant alerts.
Here are a few ideas you could try with what you already have.
You can make the Nightlight turn on softly when the presence sensor detects movement after 10 PM, just enough light to check on the baby without waking them. When the door in Zeke’s Room closes and no presence is detected for a few minutes, the Piano Light can turn off and the Nightlight can dim for nap time. The button could be your quick bedtime shortcut, for example one tap turns off all lights and a double tap sets the Nightlight to a warm low level.
If you want extra peace at night, the E1 camera can automatically switch to home mode when you are in the room so you do not get a flood of notifications.
