Anyone else struggling with Aqara G4 camera disconnects in HomeKit?

So… am I the only one dealing with this or?

Got the Aqara G4 about a month ago, was super hyped to have it integrated neatly with HomeKit. Setup went fine, but after a few days, the camera keeps randomly disconnecting from HomeKit. Like, it works perfectly for a day or two, then suddenly goes MIA. No live view, no notifications, nothing. Then—boom—it’s back again like nothing happened.

I’ve tried rebooting the router, removed and re-added the camera, even relocated it closer to the hub and Wi-Fi. Still same issue. Internet in my place is solid, and other HomeKit devices aren’t flaking out, so pretty sure it’s not my network.

Is this just a G4/HomeKit thing? Or am I missing some magic setting somewhere? Anyone figured out a workaround (please don’t say factory reset again )?

Would love to hear if anyone else fought and won this battle.

@RobotRoomie It sounds like you’re not alone in dealing with this issue. Connectivity problems with the Aqara G4 camera and HomeKit can be frustrating, especially when everything else in your setup seems to be working fine. Based on the reference information, here are some steps you might consider trying:

  1. Check Signal Strength: Ensure that the distance between the G4 camera and your router is minimal, ideally no more than 5 meters, to avoid potential Wi-Fi interference.

  2. Wi-Fi Compatibility: Make sure your G4 camera is connected to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network, as it may not support 5 GHz. Also, avoid using special characters in the Wi-Fi name or password, as this could cause connectivity issues.

  3. Restart Devices: Although you’ve already tried rebooting, consider power cycling both the camera and the router. Sometimes a fresh restart can re-establish a stable connection.

  4. Firmware and Software Updates: Check if there are any firmware updates available for the G4 camera via the Aqara Home app. Keeping the firmware updated can help resolve known connectivity issues.

These steps are based on general troubleshooting advice and may help improve the situation. If the disconnects persist, it might be worthwhile to reach out to Aqara customer service for further support. They could provide insights specific to your device’s behavior or potential firmware issues. Keep the community posted on your progress, and hopefully, you’ll find a fix soon!

J’ai le même probleme avec ma camera. Elle se déconnecte vers les 19-20h. Je suspecte que c’est au moment où la camera ajuste sa luminosité (mode jour/ mode nuit)

What is the reason for not supporting 5ghz?

Thanks.

@jeppe_ravn The reason the Aqara G4 camera does not support 5 GHz Wi-Fi is primarily due to compatibility and range considerations.

  1. Compatibility: Many smart home devices, including the Aqara G4, are designed to connect to 2.4 GHz networks because it is a standard frequency that most routers support. This ensures broader compatibility across different devices and network setups.

  2. Range: The 2.4 GHz frequency band generally offers a longer range compared to 5 GHz. This is beneficial for devices like cameras that may need to be placed further away from the router, helping maintain a stable connection over greater distances.

By focusing on 2.4 GHz, the Aqara G4 aims to provide a more reliable and extensive coverage area, which is often more suitable for smart home installations. If you have any further questions or need assistance, feel free to ask!

I had that problem with the gh camera that I had on the terrace and it was annoying, since when acting as a central of some devices, some stopped working. But since I have the g400 I have not had any disconnection and when I try to enter it, the connection goes fast. I placed it in the same place where I had the previous one and as I say no problem. Have you tried moving it a little in case there was some kind of screen or interference? Or maybe by changing the Wi-Fi channel, it could also be fixed.

I have the same problem. Random disconnectiins, returns at random points. Tried different router, placement of router,…
