APC UPS Battery Estimation and Software Update Notifications

Hello everyone, I’ve been having some interesting experiences with my APC UPS devices lately and thought I’d share them with you in case others have encountered similar issues or might have some insights to offer.

First off, I recently had to replace the battery in my APC ES550 after a power outage. The process went smoothly enough—discharging the old battery, installing the new one, and letting it charge for a good 12 hours. But here’s where things got a bit odd. The PowerChute software was showing only 3 minutes of backup time, which didn’t make much sense given that during testing, the UPS actually lasted about an hour with my connected devices. I followed the instructions I found online to reset the battery time estimation by running a load of at least 30% until the UPS shut down. After that, the estimation improved to 10 minutes, but the device still started beeping after just 30 seconds of power outage, which was pretty annoying. I’m curious if anyone else has dealt with this kind of inconsistency and if there are any additional steps or software tools that might help stabilize the battery time estimation.

On another note, I’ve been thinking about how to streamline the management of my APC devices. Specifically, I’d love to receive automatic notifications when there’s a software update available for the HUE app or PowerChute software. Right now, I have to manually check for updates, which isn’t the most efficient use of my time. Has anyone found a way to set up automatic alerts or push notifications for software updates? It would be fantastic to have the system notify me directly so I can keep everything up to date without having to remember to check manually.

I’d really appreciate any advice or experiences others might have with these kinds of issues. Whether it’s troubleshooting battery time estimations or finding a smarter way to manage software updates, your insights would be invaluable!

Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions!

Best regards,
