Aqara 1st Anniversary AMA: Ask @Aqara_PM_Donie Anything!

Hola @Aqara_PM_Donie !
Productos interesantes:

My question concerns the wireless switch. Are there any plans to add a wireless switch with a rotary knob that can be pressed to give the switch additional functionality. Like single press turns on an Aqara bulb, rotating changes brightness, long press allows you to turn the rotary knob and change color. All of this could be setup in the Aqara app. Itcould also vary speed on a fan or raise and lower shades. Keep innovating we will keep buying

I would very much like to participate in the Aqara beta test. I work in data analysis, use various smart home devices and the HomeKit ecosystem – well over 45 in total – and have excellent Wi-Fi.

Hey @Aqara_PM_Donie

I have one question: It is possible for Aqara to update their lightbulbs or any device in the software/hardware side to get the same presence functionality that you can find with Philips Hue lightbulbs? The one that detects if someone is in the room simply by using radio signals emitted by the device

It would be incredibly useful! Thank you!

I almost bought two Aqora u400 smart door locks for my house. The u400 had more features than any comparable electronic deadbolt. But in the end, I went with a less capable Schlage product because the fanciest u400 features only work on Apple infrastructure and phones, because the lock cylinder is nonstandard and thus hard to re-key, and because it only has a mediocre rating for resistance to damage. The Schlage was also less expensive.

My questions, when will you do a door lock with standard lock cylinder, and when will the U400 fancy features roll out on Android?

Is there any chance aqara will make the eu light buttons able to use for stairs connecting connecting 2 switches to 1 light bulb wired. So when i’m downstairs i can turn the lightbulb on and when im upstairs i can turn it on. Seen a lot of people on forums running in to this. Would make me finally able to refit the whole house…

We would love to get an Israeli version of the H2 Wall Outlet. Is there a way to make this happen?
We have a pretty good user group in Israel, and I am sure we can even do a sort of crowdfunding campaign to make this happen. I am sure many people here would love to replace all their outlets to an H2.
This would help cover the costs of the fabrication of the different plug design.
Can we make this happen???

Hey @Aqara_PM_Donie
Thanks for accepting our questions and taking the time to answer!

Here are my questions:

  1. what was the most fun product/project your worked on with Aqara?

  2. what’s the thinking behind the naming scheme? Sometimes it’s a bit confusing. For example G400 and G410 when G400 was released after G410  maybe you could bring some background information to understand better

Hi, how come it’s not possible to set automations to occur only at night, between sunset and sunrise, I have a G5 camera that I want to set the light to toggle on for 2 minutes when detecting motion only at night, I have to set this up in the Apple home app as I can’t see any setting in the native Aqara app which allows me to set it to only at night, unless I am missing something, this would be an awesome feature

Hi there,

It would be fantastic if the S1 Plus hub or V1 touchpad offered a digital keypad option. This would allow me to manually disarm the currently armed security mode after entering the correct code. I once had my phone die and couldn’t stop my alarm from going off when I got home until it had some charge.

While I understand I can set up a routine to disable the alarm by pressing a specific light switch, I’d feel more secure knowing someone breaking in couldn’t accidentally disarm it.

Is this something that would be possible?

I have something done with my G5 cameras, which exactly does what you demand.

Hi Aqara Team!

First of all, thank you for doing this. I’ve been a long-time user and I truly believe that Aqara produces some of the best-designed hardware in the smart home market.

However, I often feel like many of your products are just one step away from perfection. A prime example is the Panel Hub S1 Plus. It is a beautiful piece of engineering, but for many power users, the lack of native Home Assistant app support is a major barrier.

If the Home Assistant app could run natively and fluidly on the S1 Plus, it would be an absolute GameChanger. It would instantly turn the device into the ultimate control center for the enthusiast community.

My questions for the product team:

Why is the potential of the S1 Plus hardware currently restricted to the Aqara ecosystem, and are there any plans to allow native Home Assistant integration or sideloading?

A clear statement would make the purchase decision so much easier for many of us who are currently “waiting on the fence.” Thank you!

Hi @Aqara_PM_Donie Could you please clarify whether there are plans to expand image settings for the G400 and G410?
This is especially important for the G400, as it is positioned as an outdoor video doorbell and is more dependent on challenging lighting conditions.

At the moment, the capabilities are quite limited:

  • the G410 only has brightness adjustment
  • the G400 effectively only has auto brightness

At the same time, essential parameters are missing, such as contrast, saturation, and tone (white balance). Because of this, in difficult lighting conditions (streetlights, direct sunlight, wet asphalt), the camera handles exposure poorly, and users have no way to compensate.

Are there plans to add full manual image controls (brightness, contrast, saturation, tone / white balance) via firmware updates?
Please consider adding them, as they are critically important for real-world usage.

I have this situation in two places: on the stairs I have a regular switch, and downstairs I installed a wireless switch. In a hallway I also have switches on both sides, but one of them is set as a wireless switch so it can control the other one.

Great to see such an industry veteran at the helm, @Aqara_PM_Donie. Cameras are the most underutilized sensor in a typical home. Do you have any plans to change that? I’d, e.g. like to see gesture detection or zone-based presence detection like the FP2 provides

Hi, @Aqara_PM_Donie.
I am researching automation 2.0.
G5 and G100 cameras have a spotlight (lamp), in the automation conditions (WHEN and IF) there are no conditions that the lamp is “on” or “off”.
This condition for spotlights that are connected to cameras (G5,G100) is periodically required for use.
Help introduce these conditions into automation 2.0.
Thank you for your help.
