Aqara and Ikea Matter integration

Can anyone explain/tell me if the new Matter IKEA remotes, lights and sensors can integrate the Aqara ecosystem? If yes, are they fully functional without an IKEA Hub? I own the new Aqara G350, and I want to make sure it can work as a main Hub for Matter integrations for other brands also for Zigbee/Thread.

Thanks

Welcome aboard! @Expert Could you help take a look at this? Thanks!

Hi, and welcome!

It’s best to use the forum search function. Search for “ikea” or, even better, the name of the Ikea device. There are already quite a few posts here about different Ikea devices and the experiences people have had with them.

While Matter devices are designed to work seamlessly across different brands, integrating them into a specific ecosystem—such as Aqara Home, Apple Home, or Google Home—requires a compatible Matter controller from that manufacturer. For example, you would need an Aqara hub for Aqara Home, a Google Nest Hub for Google Home, or an Apple Home Hub for Apple Home, and so on.

Regarding Zigbee integration:

  • Aqara devices: Aqara Zigbee devices natively connect to Aqara hubs. Notably, these Aqara hubs can also act as Matter bridges, allowing you to pass your connected Aqara Zigbee devices through to other manufacturers ecosystems (like Apple Home, Ikea or Google Home) via the Matter protocol. Alternatively, Aqara devices can be integrated into Home Assistant using ZHA or Zigbee2MQTT.
  • IKEA devices: IKEA Zigbee devices cannot connect directly to an Aqara hub unless they also support Matter over Thread or Wi-Fi. The solution is to use an IKEA hub as a Matter bridge. This allows you to pass your IKEA Zigbee devices through to the Aqara hub via the Matter protocol.

I purchased several of the new Ikea Matter devices and they have proved a nightmare to integrate into the Aqara system.

The remotes refuse to pair and will defiantly not pair with M100, or M200, I managed to pair with an M3 hub and this took several attempts.

My advice, if you are desperate to use the Ikea stuff then get an Ikea hub or wait until their devices are working better with Aqara.

I don’t know if the issues are related to Aqara’s implementation or Ikea

IKEA devices with Zigbee cannot be directly integrated into the Aqara ecosystem.

To integrate them into the Aqara ecosystem, you need the IKEA Dirigera Hub, which then transmits the entire system’s data to the Aqara ecosystem (I used an M3 Hub). This also integrates the old Zigbee remote controls.

Newer IKEA devices that natively support Matter via Thread can be directly paired with the M3 Hub. This is how I paired my Timmerflotte Sensor, for example.

Since the Aqara G350 has the same features as the M3 Hub, it should theoretically be possible to directly pair the new IKEA devices.

Make sure that IVP6 is enabled on your router. Matter over Thread needs this.

It’s an Aqara Android app bug; you can pair both bilresa buttons with the Aqara IOS app. With Android, you can’t pair both IKEA bilresa buttons.

I didn’t check more devices; I don’t have them.

This is the intention of Matter as a standard. The G350 should function as your Matter Controller and allow you to pair your Matter devices into Aqara home.

One caution on what you asked though - this does not apply to Zigbee. Aqara hubs only act as a zigbee hub for their own zigbee devices.

If you have a zigbee system with it’s own matter-capable hub, you can pair that to Aqara, but not the individual zigbee devices.

The new motion and temp sensors seem to pair via Matter to my Aqara W200 just fine, and work as expected.

The ALPSTUGA air quality sensor pairs, but only the basic air quality sensor (“good”, “bad”, “poor”, etc) is reported. The other readings like PM2.5, CO2, and humidity are missing.
