Aqara Automation: Dog Bark Whistle

Hi everyone
Let me share one of my latest automations which has worked well and may been really handy for any dog owners. I’ll call it my automated dog whistle :dog: and it’s done entirely in the Aqara ecosystem.

Background: Our family loves our two dogs.

They are a part of the family and love getting attention, but they spend a lot of the beautiful days outdoors and unfortunately we have had a hard time getting their barking under control. It’s especially problematic for our neighbors when we are not home.

They have been trained with dog whistle / bark detection devices. However the range of those devices is not very far and the batteries die so quickly. They are ineffective for us. Enter my new dog whistle automation.

What you need:

  • Aqara Hub (I’m using M3)
  • Aqara G5 Pro, with AI listening enabled.

Automation Creation Steps:

  1. Enable your G5 with AI Sound Detection. Turn on Barking. :dog2::loudspeaker:

  1. Create automation IF Barking Detected Then Play customized Ringtone :loud_sound:

  1. Select your audio file. Note: It must be an MP3.
    a. In my case, I used a music pitch app to determine the frequency my dogs were used to obeying. I then found a file of that pitch, trimmed it down to just a second, and converted to mp3. :musical_note:
    b. To import your audio, you should have it available locally in iCloud files or dropbox. Uploading it will add it to your Aqara Ringtone library.

This works really well! What makes it successful?
G5’s AI Accuracy: :robot: :dart:G5 has been trained well and picks up both my dogs distinct barks.
G5’s detection range: The audio recognition is great, it can hear my dogs even from the far side of the yard, including in the front yard while the camera is mounted near the back of the house. This means no matter where they are in my yard, if they are barking, the G5 will hear and respond.

It’s worth nothing that certain very high frequencies do not work on G5. I think the audio range is not long enough. However I was able to pick a frequency high enough and that matches what my dogs are trained to.

I hope you’ll find this interesting and helpful! What do you think @AqaraBot?
