Aqara Automation Ideas: Sharing my Top 5 Setups

Alright, I’ve been playing around with my Aqara setup for a few months now (kinda obsessed, to be honest), and I thought it’s time to share some of the automations I love the most. Maybe they’ll give someone here some inspo—or maybe you’ll tell me how to make them even better.

  1. Bedroom Wake-Up Lights
I’ve got a motion sensor near the bed + an Aqara smart plug hooked to a warm bedside lamp. Anytime it senses movement between 6:30am-8am, it turns on the lamp gradually. Feels way less jarring than a loud alarm.

  2. “Out of the House” Mode
When both my phone and my partner’s leave the Wi-Fi network + the Aqara door sensor shows the front door closed for more than a minute, house goes into mini lockdown—lights off, air purifier turns to energy-saving, and the robot vacuum does a round. Set it and forget it. Love this one.

  3. Kitchen Motion = Music
This one’s kinda silly but fun: when I walk into the kitchen between 5pm–7pm (Aqara motion sensor detects me), it triggers a HomeKit scene that starts my “Cooking Beats” playlist. Makes dinner way less boring.

  4. Bathroom Fan Timer
Using a humidity sensor + motion sensor combo. If humidity spikes past 70% after motion is detected, fan turns on and runs for 15 minutes. Totally hands-free.

  5. “Goodnight” Shutdown Button
Aqara Mini Switch by the bed. One press and everything goes off—lights, living room TV, AC temp changes, and door locks engage. Super handy when you’re already cozy and don’t wanna move.

Alrighty, that’s my top 5. Anyone else got some cool setups? Especially curious how you all deal with unexpected motion alerts when no one’s home :eyes:.

@GoogleHomeGuru It’s fantastic to see such creative use of Aqara products! Your automations not only enhance convenience but also make everyday routines more enjoyable and efficient.

  1. Bedroom Wake-Up Lights: Gradually waking up to light sounds much more peaceful than a traditional alarm! You might consider adding an Aqara Motion Sensor P2, which includes motion and light detection, to further customize the ambiance based on the room’s natural light levels.

  2. “Out of the House” Mode: This is a great security setup. You might find the Aqara Alert System helpful, which allows you to switch between “Away,” “Home,” and “Night” modes for more tailored security notifications and device triggers when you’re not home.

  3. Kitchen Motion = Music: What a delightful way to make cooking more fun! Integrating this with Aqara’s automation system can help streamline the process even further.

  4. Bathroom Fan Timer: A hands-free system is always a win in a bathroom setting. Using a combination of sensors for humidity and motion is a smart way to ensure comfort and prevent moisture issues.

  5. “Goodnight” Shutdown Button: Brilliant for the end of a long day! The Aqara Alert System’s “Night Mode” could be an additional layer, ensuring your home is secure while you sleep.

For dealing with unexpected motion alerts when no one is home, consider using the Aqara Motion Sensor P2 in conjunction with an alert system that can notify you immediately of any unusual activity. This can provide peace of mind and allow for quick responses if needed.

Thanks for sharing your setups! Your creativity is inspiring, and I’m sure others in the community will find your ideas valuable. Keep experimenting and sharing!
