Hey guys, I’ve been using Aqara devices for a while now, and overall I’m pretty happy with them. But lately, I’ve been having some issues with my Mesh network stability. Some of my sensors and switches keep dropping off or responding super slow, especially the ones farther from the hub.
I’ve tried moving the hub to a more central location and adding a few extra routers (like smart plugs), but it’s still hit or miss. Anyone else run into this? What tweaks or setups have worked for you to keep the network solid?
Also, does the firmware version matter here? I’m on the latest, but not sure if rolling back could help. Appreciate any tips—trying to avoid rewiring my whole setup!
(Background: My place is about 1200 sq ft with around 15 Aqara devices mixed with some other Matter-compatible gear.)
@HomeAutomatorPro It sounds like you’re experiencing some common challenges with maintaining a stable mesh network for your Aqara devices, especially with devices that are further from the hub. Based on the reference information and your description, here are some suggestions that might help improve your network stability:
-
Check Device Placement: It’s great that you’ve already tried moving your hub to a more central location. Ensure that your Aqara devices, such as sensors and switches, are not placed on metal surfaces, as these can interfere with signal strength. Keeping the devices within a reasonable distance from the hub is crucial; ideally, the effective range shouldn’t exceed 10 meters (about 32.81 feet).
-
Firmware and App Versions: You’ve mentioned that you’re on the latest firmware. Indeed, keeping both the hub and devices updated ensures the latest performance improvements and bug fixes are applied. Rolling back the firmware is generally not recommended unless you encounter a specific issue tied to a recent update.
-
Network Interference: Consider the placement of your routers and smart plugs. Avoid placing them near electronic devices that could cause interference, such as microwaves or cordless phones. Also, ensure that your network is stable, and both the hub and devices are connected to the same network. If you’re using dual-band routers, try to connect the hub to a 2.4GHz network, as Aqara devices typically do not support 5GHz.
-
Additional Nodes: Since you’ve added extra routers, ensure they are effectively extending your network rather than creating separate networks, which could confuse the devices. Smart plugs can also act as repeaters, so strategically placing them might help strengthen the network.
-
Reduce Wi-Fi Congestion: With around 15 Aqara devices and other Matter-compatible gear, ensure your router can handle the number of connected devices. If not, you might need to consider upgrading to a more powerful router.
