Hey folks,
So, Aqara just about to drop the Presence Multi-Sensor FP300 and I’m genuinely curious… is this about to change the way we use presence sensors, or is it just another shiny gadget?
From what I’ve seen, this thing is like the “Swiss Army knife” of sensors: it detects presence (even if you’re sitting still), measures light levels, tracks temperature, and keeps an eye on humidity — all in one tiny puck.
The interesting part is what you can do when you combine all those readings into a single device. With older Aqara presence sensors like the FP1 or FP2, you could detect if someone was there, but that was mostly it. Now imagine this:
- Smart Room Climate Control – If it senses you’re in the room and the temperature is above 28 °C and the humidity is high, it could turn on both the AC and a dehumidifier automatically. That’s something the FP2 alone couldn’t do without extra devices feeding it data.
- Adaptive Lighting with Accuracy – Let’s say you walk into a room. PIR detection gives the instant “turn on the lights” trigger, while mmWave confirms you’re still there. Add in the light sensor, and now it only turns on if it’s actually dark enough. Would you trade FP2’s zoning for this level of precision and context?
- Bathroom Comfort Mode – The humidity reading could tell your fan to stay on until the air clears and presence detection ensures the lights don’t shut off while you’re still there (even if you’re motionless).
If you’ve tried the FP1 or FP2, you know mmWave sensors can sometimes feel a bit… overcomplicated or slow to trigger instantly. The FP300 mixes PIR + mmWave, so you get quick response from PIR and the still-presence accuracy from mmWave.
That means fewer “false empties” when you’re working quietly, and fewer “false presences” from things like moving curtains or a warm pet. But here’s what I’m wondering: will it really outperform the FP2’s zone detection, or is this more about replacing multiple sensors with one?
Personally, I’m excited because this could mean fewer devices cluttering up my walls — one sensor doing the job of three. But I’m also wondering: for advanced setups, will we still need the FP2’s mapping, or is this going to be the new go-to?
What’s your take — is the FP300 the future of presence sensors, or just Aqara experimenting with an all-in-one approach?

Hopeful about this one. It really seems like it depends on the implementation but this device checks all the boxes

I like the reliability of Aqara devices. If the FP300 means I can eliminate some other, less reliable devices in a room that are now redundant then it is a win for me. I have 217 devices in my home so simplification is an ongoing goal.
I use region detection extensively so I could not replace my FP2s easily.

Any opportunity to combine multiple devices into one is a good thing.

I use sensors Fp1, Fp1e and Fp2. They are all cool, each was cool in its time and even now they work well. Fp2 is generally the only sensor that can detect 32 zones. This is very cool. I am looking forward to the FP300.

I worry about the temp being affected by self heating, but if they’re using PIR for wake-up, that might not be an issue. I’m worried that the PIR will only be used for wakeup, which may also increase trigger time on the mmWave.

I’m very excited for this one. I have a shed I use as a gym/man cave. It would eliminate a lot of needs wrapping up several things into one solution.

Eliminating wiring is another big win for the FP300

Battery life on the FP300 will be important. I would not want to add a high maintenance sensor.

It can be a game changer for the environments where you can use only battery powered devices. If it battery life will be 2yrs as advertised it can be a great replacement for the P1 motion sensor.

Does anybody know when these will be released and how much they will cost?

Battery powered presence will be awesome.

Hi
The release date and price are unknown.

2 yr battery would be a very respectable battery life. With the other listed features like humidity and light sensing I will put it at the top of my list for motion and presense sensing!
Let’s do this.

Anything that decreases the false positives is a win for me. It’s pretty good now, but the closer to perfect we get, the better.

I really doubt if a battery-powered mmWave sensor can ever be a good replacement for a mains-powered one. I am curious but doubtful as well. And I think Aqara knows this too, and that’s why they have crammed all other sensors into this product so that people at least buy this for other sensors.

I’am very impatient about this sensor. I think it could help to limit the number of sensors. I wonder if battery powered will be enough for this kind of sensor.

I have been using the BT predecessor of this sensor ( XMOSB01XS) for a while now and its been perfect for my bathroom. It’s been 4 months and the battery is still at 100%. Really looking forward to this one so I can replace my other Hue motion sensors with this.
