The developers fixed the frequent offlining issue with the G100 cameras. I’m really pleased about that.
There are some annoyances with the cameras that remain. I’ve emailed support about them, but it seems there’s a lack of communication between support and the developers being as support we’re unaware the developers were working on a fix for the off-lining issue. So I’m putting this here in the vein hope the developers will see the issues here directly.
There are 3 further issues, though they are not deal breakers, the developers should be aware of them.
It fails to detect humans 4 out of 5 times. Even though detection area is much larger than a human. This is also true on HomeKit, which I understand receive the human flags from the camera itself.
I can go to playback on the SD card at any point, multiple times, without problems. I can skip to the last know motion or human detection, without issues using the up and down arrows. However if I apply any filter and do it, it doesn’t work and the camera lock up in the Aqara app for several minutes. This happens on both cameras, and is repeatable EVERY SINGLE TIME. It is not intermittent.
When viewing playback it often suggests turning on fluent viewing. Even though it’s already on. I feel it would even suggest this if the camera was sat right next to the WiFi router. The alert frequency is too much. I can’t physically move the camera any closer, so I’m comfortable if it takes a little time to respond without receiving an unnecessary alert.
@iandean Thank you for sharing your experience and feedback about the G100 cameras—it’s great to hear the offline issue was resolved, and I appreciate how clearly you’ve described the remaining annoyances.
Regarding the human detection issue (missing human detection 4 out of 5 times), while there are general suggestions for improving AI-based human detection—such as ensuring the camera is installed at a suitable height (ideally below 3 meters with a downward tilt of around 30°), keeping firmware up to date, using additional lighting at night, and setting sensitivity to the highest level—these recommendations are specifically referenced for the G5 Pro, but might be useful as a general guideline for your situation as well. Please note, the effectiveness may vary for the G100 and is for reference only.
On the playback filter issue where applying filters causes the Aqara app to lock up: unfortunately, there isn’t a direct reference or troubleshooting step in the current materials for this specific problem. It could be app or firmware-related, or possibly a bug. Since you’ve already reported it to support, I recommend continuing to update the app and firmware as new versions are released. Community members: if anyone else has encountered this and found a workaround, please chime in!
For the persistent “turn on fluent viewing” suggestion—even when fluent viewing is already enabled and the camera is near the router—there’s no direct reference available for this specific alert behavior. General advice for playback or connection issues includes checking network strength and minimizing the number of users streaming simultaneously, but your situation sounds different.
Your detailed feedback is truly valuable for others in the community, and for identifying areas that could use improvement. If you have additional suggestions or want to ensure your feedback reaches the right channels, please submit it manually through Aqara customer service. And of course, if any community members have found workarounds for these issues, your insights are most welcome!
I updated the newest firmware for my G100 and now my motion/human/pet detection in HomeKit has completely degraded. Almost never picks anything up and when it does it creates a short 2 second clip, instead of when motion ends. This was never an issue before I did the firmware update.
As the original post says, this issue is only in HomeKit and not in the Aqara app, where my SD card recordings still capture all motion fine.
