Aqara G3 instantly disconnects from Wi-Fi when switching to Night Vision

Hi everyone,

I am experiencing a very specific and fully reproducible issue with my Aqara Camera Hub G3, and I would like to know if anyone else has encountered this or if Aqara engineers can comment on it.

Problem summary

The camera works perfectly during daylight with strong Wi-Fi signal.
However, the moment the room light turns off and the camera switches to Night Vision mode (IR filter clicks), the camera immediately drops from Wi-Fi and disappears from the router’s client list.

It never reconnects until I reboot the device.
This happens instantly, exactly when the IR filter switches.

Steps to reproduce (100% reproducible):

  1. Camera is online, stable, strong signal (RSSI around –38 dBm).
  2. Turn off the room light.
  3. Camera clicks (IR filter switching).
  4. Wi-Fi connection drops instantly.
  5. Camera disappears from the router’s DHCP/Wi-Fi client list.
  6. Only reboot or factory reset brings it back online.

Tests already performed

Power supply testing

:heavy_check_mark: Tested with multiple adapters
:heavy_check_mark: Tested with several high-quality USB cables
→ Same behavior.

Wi-Fi setup

:heavy_check_mark: Dedicated 2.4 GHz IoT SSID
:heavy_check_mark: 20 MHz channel
:heavy_check_mark: Channel 1/6/11 tested
:heavy_check_mark: WPA2-PSK AES
:heavy_check_mark: Great signal strength
:heavy_check_mark: Router: TP-Link Archer AX55
Wi-Fi is stable for all other devices (TVs, sensors, Aqara hubs, smart plugs).

HomeKit check

:heavy_check_mark: The issue happens even without adding the camera to Apple Home.
:heavy_check_mark: HomeKit does NOT cause this — IR/Night Vision does.

Firmware

:heavy_check_mark: Latest firmware installed.

Any input from Aqara engineers or advanced users would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Solution Found

After extensive testing, I discovered the real cause of the issue, and it was not related to Wi-Fi, firmware, the router, or HomeKit integration.

The problem was actually caused by insufficient power delivery to the Aqara G3

What was happening

Because my power outlet was far from the camera, I was using a USB extension cable.
The cable looked fine, but it turned out to have a smaller wire gauge (thinner power conductors) compared to the original Aqara cable.

Even though the extension itself was from Logitech and of good quality, the internal wire thickness was not enough to maintain stable voltage when the camera switched to Night Vision mode.

Final Fix

I moved the power outlet closer to the camera and connected the G3 directly with the original cable, without any extension.

After that, the problem completely disappeared.

No more Wi-Fi drops.
No more disconnections when the IR filter switches.
Night Vision now works perfectly.

Thanks for the info @g_vizulis and your testing results! Sure if you put a longer cable ( then original) on G3 , power management can be disturbed. But there’s always a difference in the quality of the chosen cable
