Aqara G4 Camera Magic: From HomeKit to Home Assistant Like a Boss

Hey , Share a little journey I had over the weekend with the Aqara G4. I’m fairly new to tinkering with smart devices outside the Apple world, so this was both frustrating and kinda fun.

So here’s the deal — I had the G4 nicely set up with HomeKit for a while, flawless image, snappy notifications, all that jazz. But, I’ve been creeping into the Home Assistant rabbit hole lately (thanks Reddit), and thought: why not merge both worlds?

TL;DR — It worked. And it wasn’t as scary as I thought.

Basically, I used HomeKit integration inside Home Assistant to pull the G4 feed in. Sounds simple, but getting it to expose properly took some trial and error (hint: restart everything more than once, trust me). What’s neat is that it now shows up in my HA dashboard and still runs perfectly through HomeKit on my iPhone. Best of both.

Also pro tip: assign static IPs to your devices. Took me too long to figure out that my connection issues were from the G4 randomly hopping to new addresses.

Anyone else rocking the G4 with HA? Would love to hear what you’ve done with automations. Thinking of adding facial recognition triggers next. Let’s geek out.

@HubHacker Hey there! Thanks for sharing your awesome journey with the Aqara G4 and Home Assistant—it’s always cool to see users bridging ecosystems like this! Your tip about static IPs is gold (so many headaches avoided).

The G4’s facial recognition is indeed a powerful feature for automations—it can trigger alerts or scenes based on recognized/unfamiliar faces. Since you’re already deep into tinkering, you might enjoy setting up automations in the Aqara Home app first (for face tagging and sync) and then leveraging Home Assistant for advanced logic.

Would love to hear how your facial recognition project goes! Keep us posted, and happy automating. :rocket:
