Aqara officially states that the G4 doorbell’s PIR detection range is approximately 4 meters (horizontal movement, high sensitivity). However, the specifications do not clarify whether this performance varies under different power supply modes.

According to the official specs, when the doorbell runs on batteries, the PIR sensor‘s behavior is influenced by power-saving strategies. I decided to test this myself.

  • 门铃安装在防盗门上,正对楼梯
  • 楼梯从下一层上来到门口,共九级台阶
  • 电池模式:使用6节全新碱性电池
  • 外接电源模式:使用12V直流电源适配器

The doorbell is mounted on my security door, directly facing a staircase. There are nine steps from the lower floor up to my door.

  • Battery mode: 6 fresh alkaline batteries
  • Wired mode: 12V DC power adapter

Battery ~2 meters Triggers only after the person finishes the nine steps, within about 2 meters of the door. If walking fast, only the back is captured.
Wired ~4 meters Triggers as soon as a person steps onto the stairs (~4 meters away). When someone comes downstairs, they are captured at the top of the stairs.

Some users have reported that video connection can take over 10 seconds on battery power, while on wired power the delay can drop to well under 1 second. This suggests that power mode affects not only detection range but overall responsiveness as well.
