I’ve been using the Aqara G4 doorbell on battery power successfully for months with motion detection and the status light working as expected. After a battery replacement and accidental tamper alarm, I unplugged the chime and later performed a factory reset to recover functionality. Since then, the doorbell appears to revert to Power-Saving Mode behavior—even though it is explicitly set to “Normal Mode” in both the Aqara and Home apps.
Symptoms:
• Status light turns off shortly after activity, and motion detection does not trigger unless I open the app or press the doorbell.
• PIR detection works only when I manually load the live view or refresh the Home app thumbnail.
• Status light toggles (red/blue/off) as expected but does not stay on as it did before.
• I’ve confirmed settings in both Aqara and Home apps, restarted, re-paired the device, toggled the mode multiple times, and used new lithium rechargeable batteries.
I’m trying to determine if this is a bug introduced by recent firmware or if there’s a deeper factory reset process beyond the 10-second hold. Others online have reported similar issues after firmware updates. Is there a confirmed fix for restoring proper battery-powered “Normal Mode” behavior?
Any help is appreciated!
