Aqara G410 Door Bell could be better

New Aqara Ecosystem User — Honest First Impressions

Coming from a basic Alexa setup, I was genuinely excited by Aqara’s product range and the overwhelmingly positive influencer coverage. So I picked up a few devices to test whether I could build my smart home around the ecosystem.

The verdict so far? Frustratingly close. Product after product feels like it’s 90% of the way there — then stumbles on one critical, avoidable detail.

The G410 Video Doorbell is the clearest example, and I’m seriously considering returning it over two issues:

:one: The Repeater Setup is Unnecessarily Restrictive

I understand the repeater offloads the WiFi connection to preserve battery life — that’s a reasonable design choice. But limiting users to a single, USB-tethered repeater creates a real placement headache.

  • Why not include an internal rechargeable battery in the repeater for flexible positioning?
  • More importantly — why not support multiple repeaters via Zigbee? This feels like a straightforward protocol capability that’s simply been left on the table.

:two: Single-Sided Anti-Theft Screw

The security screw is only accessible from one side of the mount. If your door frame sits close to a wall — an extremely common installation scenario — you physically cannot reach it. Putting the screw hole on both sides would have been a trivial design change with a significant real-world impact.

Aqara clearly has the engineering talent. These aren’t fundamental flaws — they’re finishing details. And that’s what makes them so frustrating. :crossed_fingers: hoping future firmware or hardware revisions close these gaps.

This is especially frustrating because it was an obvious design issue with the G4 and went unaddressed in G410.

That said G400 addresses both of your concerns. The G400 is not dependent on the chime for connectivity and can be paired with up to 5.

@coletti.robert thanks for the insight. I’m genuinely confused as to why @AqaraOfficial didn’t design the G410 with both issues in mind. It would have made the upgrade genuinely a game changer.

It’s important to look at the time line of release. The G410 is/was an iteration and never ment to be the end result (a great doorbell camera) it was a stepping stone along the way to the current newest release model G400 (Wired).

If you ask me the G410 does not offer any improvements over the G4 that screams release me. Aqara could have gone from G4 to G400 if it weren’t for the large gap in time.

I will steer clear of my G4/G410 design rant. The G400 is a much better product and really is a huge improvement since Aqara began the doorbell product releases.

@aqara another area where the doorbell could be improved is how it alerts you when someone rings it.
For example, the doorbell rings and you receive a standard phone notification (a small pop-up). If you’re not looking at your phone at that moment, or you’re out of earshot of the repeater or hub (if you’ve configured one to ring via automation), there’s a good chance you’ll miss the visitor entirely.
Possible improvement
It would be great if Aqara could provide additional notification and alert actions for doorbell events, such as:
Triggering a WhatsApp call or message
Playing a custom ringtone on the phone
Triggering the phone alarm
Flashing the phone’s torch/light
Forcing a vibration pattern until acknowledged
Other high-priority alert options
These would give users more flexibility in how they are notified and significantly reduce the chances of missing a doorbell ring.
At the time of writing, I’m not aware of any built-in options like these, but I’d be interested to hear if other community members have found a simple way to achieve something similar.
