Sorry if the question was already asked but I checked on the forum and didn’t find any answer.
Do Aqara Matter over Thread devices support Matter protocol about firmware updates ?
I mean in Matter standards, firmware updates seem possible even without the same brand hub
For example I don’t have Aqara M3 hub (that support threads) and it would be so bad that I need to buy M3 hubs only to be able to have firmware updates.
This is why I would want to be sure before buying an Aqara device… even without M3 hub and without any Aqara hub, will I have firmware updates using my HomeKit routers ?
I know some other brands do but I won’t name it here by respect for Aqara
Thank you for reaching out with your question, and no worries about your English—you’re doing great!
Regarding Matter over Thread devices and firmware updates, the current information suggests that Aqara is working on developing their Thread devices, but it will take some time before they are ready with firmware updates. This means that as of now, firmware updates for Aqara devices typically require an Aqara hub, like the M3, to be connected to the same local network.
The Matter standard does generally allow for cross-brand compatibility, including firmware updates, but it seems Aqara’s implementation might still depend on using their specific hubs. Unfortunately, without an Aqara hub like the M3, you might not be able to take advantage of firmware updates even with HomeKit routers at this moment.
I understand this might not be the ideal news, but it’s always worth keeping an eye on updates from Aqara as they work on expanding their Matter support. If you have any more questions or need further clarification, feel free to ask!
Thank you for your understanding and respect for Aqara, and I hope this helps you make an informed decision.
