Aqara Smart Lock 400U Review

I’ve been using the Aqara U400 for a bit now, and overall it’s a really solid smart lock—especially if you’re already in the Apple ecosystem. I’m running it with an Apple TV 4K as the hub, and setup was smooth with HomeKit. Day-to-day reliability has been great.

The UWB auto-unlock is genuinely useful and works most of the time. When it’s on point, it feels magical—walk up, door unlocks, done. That said, it can occasionally be a bit late, like it’s thinking, “Oh… you’re here already?” It’s not a dealbreaker, but worth mentioning if you expect instant unlock every single time.

The fingerprint reader, though? Absolutely lightning fast. It’s so quick and accurate that I’ve started debating whether I should add my little kids’ fingerprints—mostly because they’d probably get inside faster than I do. Jokes aside, it’s one of the best fingerprint sensors I’ve used on a smart lock.

Between the fast biometrics, solid HomeKit integration, and generally reliable UWB performance, the Aqara U400 feels like a premium, well-thought-out lock. A tiny bit more consistency with UWB timing would make it near perfect, but even as is, it’s an easy recommendation.

The fingerprint sensor was the main reason I bought mine - it’s super fast, and doesn’t require any “re-presses.” Love it!
