Aqara T2 Relay Automation Not Triggering Second Relay (Staircase Setup)

Problem with Aqara T2 (DCM-K01) Relay Automation – Staircase System

Hello,

I would like to ask for support regarding the automation issue I’m experiencing with two Aqara T2 relays (DCM-K01 with neutral), designed to control a light in a staircase system.

Installation and Settings:

  • Both relays are Aqara T2 (firmware 0.0.0_0032)
  • Aqara M3 Hub (version 4.3.7_0036)
  • Relay settings in Aqara Home:
    • Switch Type: “Button”
    • Device Mode: “Wet contact”
  • One relay (upper button) is only powered and connected to the button at the top of the stairs, the other (main relay) is located near the light at the bottom.
  • Manual switching of the light works correctly via both buttons.

Automation:

  • IF: Short press of Button 1 (S1) – the upper button at the stairs
  • THEN: Turn ON/OFF Channel 1 – the main relay at the bottom near the light

Problem:

  • When I press the upper button, I hear the relay inside click, but the main relay at the bottom does not react (the light does not turn on).
  • Testing the automation in the Aqara Home app works perfectly – Channel 1 of the main relay switches and the light turns on/off.
  • The issue only occurs when triggering the automation by physically pressing the upper button.

Summary:

  • All modules have the latest firmware.
  • Manual control and test automation via the app work as expected.
  • Automation triggered by actual button press does not switch the light at the main/bottom relay.

Request:

Please advise what could be causing this issue or suggest further troubleshooting steps (e.g., different settings, additional updates, diagnostics, etc.).

Thank you! Robert from Czech R.

Is the voltage 220 volts?

yes, 230v

For a better understanding, you can upload screenshots of automations.

Just to add, when I create the same automation on an Apple iPhone, it works. But I need in Aqara Home

Got it.
Now check the type of automation execution (cloud or local).
I have had cases of cloud automations not executing. Do you know where to check this?

You can also try to make two automations on On/Off.
IF T2 is pressed and T1 is off (°°) THEN Turn on T1.
IF T2 is pressed and T1 is on (°°) THEN Turn off T1.

Hi, I tried this automation and it’s the same, I think the problem is that I changed the switch type (Rocker) and physically replaced it with a Momentary Button.

Did you check the type of automation (cloud, local)?

@rkoperdak
I’ll be home on the weekend, test your automation, and post the results.

Hello, @rkoperdak .
I made the automation you need. In the T2 settings, you need to switch to wireless switch mode (screen), after that everything works fine.

But there is one feature: to activate the T2 switch via the button, you will have to make another additional automation on On/Off (T2) because the physical button is disabled. Video of this automation.

Hi, that’s exactly what I needed. Thank you very much. I owe you a beer. Robert

Hi, minor problem, now I can’t turn the light on and off via the app, the relay has switched.

Hi, I don’t understand the problem where you can’t switch.
Take a screenshot and explain it to me better.
After switching to logical mode, T2 On/Off works perfectly with the app.

Hi, I won’t solve this anymore, I’ll leave it as you showed me. So I’ll only control one relay from the app, the one connected to the light. At first I didn’t understand the principle of the wireless button (and I have them at home) - that they can’t be controlled from the app. Still, thank you for everything, your willingness and your time. Hi, thank you, I’m glad I helped you. Don’t forget to use other presses in the wireless button (1, 2 or hold). For example, I hold in the living room to turn on the TV with M3, and in the bathroom to turn on the exhaust fan.
In a word - it’s your imagination, and there are no limits :slightly_smiling_face:
