I’m about to switch my Aqara setup over to Home Assistant and want to sanity-check before I commit.
My worry is losing info on some of the sensors. The native app seems to expose data nicely, but I’ve read mixed things about how much detail actually comes through once you’re going via Zigbee2MQTT or the ZHA integration instead of Aqara’s own hub firmware.
For anyone who’s made the jump: did you lose any functionality, or is it mostly just a different UI? Trying to work out if there’s a tradeoff.
I think I have everything I need from my FP-2 in home assistant, but if you use AI at all, you can ask it to help you develop quirks to ensure all aspects of the device is covered how you want. I was suspect that the aqara integrations already are handled very well in both ZHA and Z2MQTT, but if not there is always that route to help. I have modified the default zigbee support in ZHA a few times doing this.
Zigbee2MQTT actually has a great overview of all devices, and for each one you can find details on which features are available. Just check ahead of time to make sure it has everything you need
For sensors (motion, temp, open/close, water leak) I don’t see any problem. They’re just simple binary sensors and you can upgrade the firmware if there’s any via zigbee2mqtt.
But for things like door lock that’s different. You lose functionalities like adding/removing pin, etc … so I still kept my lock paired with Aqara hub
