I recently set up my Nuki smart lock with Homey and wanted to share my experience and some tips for those looking to do the same. The goal was to have my front door automatically unlock when I approach my home, but with some added safety features to prevent unlocking when I use the backdoor.
My Setup:
- Auto-Awake Feature: I configured the lock to wake up and prepare to unlock when I enter a 700m geofence around my home.
- Bluetooth Trigger: The lock detects my iPhone’s Bluetooth signal as I approach.
- Backdoor Sensor Check: I added a condition to ensure the backdoor hasn’t been opened in the last 10 minutes to prevent accidental unlocking.
Challenges & Solutions:
The biggest challenge was ensuring the lock didn’t unlock when I approached via the backdoor. Using the Homey app’s presence detection and the beacon app to detect the Nuki’s Bluetooth signal was key. I also found that adjusting the geofence radius helped prevent false triggers.
Tips for Others:
- Test the Bluetooth range to ensure consistent detection.
- Use the Homey app’s rule editor to fine-tune timing and conditions.
- Consider adding multiple sensors or entry points depending on your home layout.
This setup has made my daily routine much smoother while maintaining security. Happy automating! ![]()
