Hey everyone, I wanted to share my experience with automating my bathroom lights without using a motion sensor. While motion sensors are great, I found that people in my home were a bit wary of them, thinking they might be privacy-invading devices. So, I decided to go with a contact sensor approach instead!
Here’s how I set it up: I placed a contact sensor on the bathroom door. The idea is simple yet effective—when the door opens, the light turns on, and when it closes, the light turns off. But wait, there’s a twist! I programmed it so that the light stays on for a short period after the door closes, giving anyone inside enough time to adjust or find their way out.
To make it even smarter, I added an override feature. If someone manually turns off the light before leaving, the automation respects that choice and doesn’t force the light back on. It’s all about balancing convenience with flexibility!
This setup has been a huge hit in my home. No more awkward moments with people avoiding the bathroom because of the motion sensor, and the lights are always there when needed. Plus, it’s been a great conversation starter when friends come over and notice how smooth the system works.
If anyone has questions or wants to tweak this idea for their own setup, feel free to reach out! I’m always happy to share tips or troubleshoot. Happy automating! ![]()
