I’ve always been fascinated by the idea of automating my home, especially when it comes to something as simple yet impactful as opening and closing windows. I recently decided to tackle the automation of my casement windows, which I use in conjunction with my whole house fan. I thought this would be a straightforward project, but I quickly discovered that the cost of off-the-shelf solutions was prohibitive.
The Truth Sentry II, which I researched, was priced at a whopping $250, which felt too expensive for my needs. As someone who enjoys DIY projects, I decided to explore a more budget-friendly workaround. I purchased a 12V right-angle motor for just $20 and set out to see if I could adapt it to replace the manual hand crank on my windows.
The process was a bit trial and error, but I managed to mount the motor in place of the hand crank. To my delight, it worked perfectly! The motor didn’t require much torque to operate the windows, and the cheap solution proved to be more than sufficient. I was thrilled with the outcome and couldn’t help but feel a sense of accomplishment.
I’d love to hear from anyone who has attempted a similar DIY project or has advice on improving this setup. It’s always great to learn from others’ experiences and maybe even pick up a few tips to refine my system further. Happy automating! ![]()
